Today, we finished “Hail Bop! A Portrait of John Adams” by Tony Palmer,
a famous documentary filmmaker. It dates from 1998, which roughly
coincided with Adams’ 50th birthday and features numerous interviews
with various artists, including Alice Goodman and Peter Sellars. I liked
the fact that it actually showed Adams working with performers, such as
Emanuel Ax.

John Adams shares his opinions of the music scene, what it means to be
a composer in contemporary society and how the composing process
works for him.

This film provides a good overview of his career and life, as of 1998.
I highly recommend it.
